Good Reading

The Alaska Trial Lawyer covers current, local and national news about issues, litigation and activities of interest to trial lawyers.

Affiliation – ATLA

The Academy is the Alaska affiliate of the American Trial Lawyers Association.

Affiliation – NACDL

In 1997, the Academy became the Alaska affiliate of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) allowing AATL to expand services and information to our members who practice criminal defense.

Discussions – Roundtable luncheons / Dinner Meetings

The Academy holds monthly meetings at the Hotel Captain Cook Quarter Deck. Roundtable luncheons are a valuable forum for discussing difficult cases or trial preparation. Dinner meetings feature guest speakers on current issues. Speakers have included Alaskan judges, physicians and legislators, legal experts and academics from other states.

Continuing Legal Education

The Academy sponsors civil litigation, criminal defense seminars, and an annual Litigators’ Conference. Both feature nationally or locally recognized speakers and civil and criminal law experts. Members receive discounts on all seminars.

TrialSmith (Formerly Depoconnect)

In 1997, the Academy joined with other trial lawyer associations to access a national deposition bank. TrialSmth allows member plaintiff lawyers to keyword search thousands of depositions, seminar papers, legal documents, exhibits, and expert leads in a nationwide database in a matter of seconds.

The Alaska Action Trust

The Alaska Action Trust represents the interests of trial lawyers and the general public before the Alaska Legislature. The Trust addresses and monitors many issues, including insurance reform, criminal law, auto insurance, family law, workplace safety, and workers’ compensation. The Alaska Action Trust works to protect and defend individual rights under the civil justice system. The Trust represents Academy membership interests and is funded solely through contributions.
